Cool black rayon drapes nicely over the curves, and they went ahead and added a little extra layer of drape on each side of the hip. Side zipper closure but with a generous V-neck front for an easier pull over the head and padded shoulders which you’ll need to hold up those bejeweled shoulders. Oh, have we mentioned the spectacular shoulders yet??? Jeweled and beaded embroidery drip their way around and down the entire sleeve. The robins egg blue and coral beads are delightful, the silver beads add sparkle, and all are set on top of the contrasting deco powder blue rayon cutout panels. A delightful piece, shoulder to shoulder, top to tip.
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered (in this case also bejeweled)…am I. As in the popular show song from Pal Joey 1940. Sung by the greats Ella, Doris, Frank, and even Cher. But our favorite version (most definitely because of their attached visuals) the 1957 version sung by Jo Ann Greer for Rita Hayworth’s spectacular scene in the film of the same title. That gilded birdcage shower of hers in that scene?! We too, wish to be bathed fountain-style in a lantern-shaped birdcage, but we’ll settle with being showered in beaded embroidery for now.
If you have a pair of cool black opera length gloves and black stockings handy, why not wear them with this and really make a shoulder statement? Or if you love the traditional 1940s way….that would be classic platforms with those necessary thick heels, gauntlet or slouched gloves, and hat with a face drape or a turban to match.
