Stun and wow them with your matching collar and cuffs, and then there’s the rhinestones! A glorious 1930’s gown with as much wit as the author Carla Valderrama has, and as much modesty as a post Hays Code film has. Inky black crepe rayon tailored at the bust to the waist, then slinks its way to the floor. Soft black mesh puffed sleeves encase the wearer’s arms and snap shut at the wrist. The neckline is a show in itself, a wrapped faux collar at the front where the rhinestone collar “passes through” as if the entire dress is held up by just what’s around your neck. Hook and eye closure at the neckline, like a true “showgirl necklace”, and metal zipper up the back. Keyhole opening just to wave goodbye to Pre-Code Hollywood. All in all, you’re completely encased in 1930’s material, but in the cheekiest way, splitting that diving line of 1934 perfectly where pre and post code films meet.
Carla Valderrama – Author of her highly successful and compelling book This Was Hollywood, a Hollywood historian, and all around incredible woman with a heart of gold and humor to match.
Rhinestone clutch please, to match the collar and cuffs ahem. Any black heels will do, especially with black stockings, of the 100% nylon variety or silk.
Bust – 34-36 inches
Waist – 25-26 inches
Length – 55 inches
Excellent, very wearable, condition. Some pulls and repairs to the mesh here and there, no very visible holes that we can find. Black crepe has some faint white marks in the front towards the bottom, were not visible in photos. Minor wear to the fabric from age. Rhinestones inside prongs are all there, hook and eyes are all intact. Back metal zipper may have been replaced at some point.
Our vintage clothing pieces are true antiques, not modern reproductions or facsimiles. As such, unless specifically stated that they are “new old stock”, each piece should be considered a previously worn treasure that will show varying levels of use and potential condition issues. Please read every section of our vintage clothing product pages to best understand exactly what you are purchasing before placing your order. All vintage clothing is sold “as is” with no warranty and all vintage clothing sales are final. Please reach out before you purchase if you have any questions about a specific piece and one of our knowledgeable customer support agents will be glad to assist you.
Finding undiscovered troves of brand new vintage clothing is exceptionally rare, so each item in our vintage shop is a unique listing with a first-come, first-served setup. We cannot hold or reserve items and once they have sold, it is unlikely that we will ever get another in our store again. If you see something you love, make sure to buy it or it might not be here on your next visit.
