The sweetest novelty print of black chantilly lace flowers over a powdered pink rayon crepe. A wonderful 1940s silhouette featuring large lace-trimmed decorative bows posted on both shoulders and in the front center area. Hip ruching gives a little more dramatic shape to the lower half. Three quarter length sleeves and V neckline complete the dress. A MAJOR and exciting bonus with this piece is a beautiful matching lace print shawl trimmed with the same lace as the bows. Slings perfectly over the shoulders as a cover, but drapes in the most exciting way over the head. Such a darling little set!
Anne Geneviève de Bourbon, the “Goddess of Peace and Concord” was a French princess who was responsible for bringing the manufacturing of lace to Chantilly, France…and so chantilly lace was born. It was also a favorite of Marie Antoinette’s, however after she was guillotined production ceased due to the lace-makers of Chantilly also being killed. Years later it was revived in Normandy and Belgium.
Wrap that gorgeous shawl up into a turban. Any style of head covering with this shawl would be fantastic really! The perfect little dress for flats too, but heels will work just as well.
Bust – 34 inches
Waist – 26 inches
Length – 45 inches
Excellent, very wearable, condition. Print is consistent throughout, pink rayon color also consistent. Although it was difficult to capture on camera, the shawl is slightly more pink than the dress. The set still appears to match when worn, but there is a visible shade difference.
