A stunning pastel, in that its not quite one thing or another, but the closest we imagine this would be is if you infused beige and lilac into a champagne. Fully underlined in pellon, which gives it the structured shape and full skirt without the need for any additional underpinnings. Perfect darting in the bust in waistline continue to give you that structure and polished look.
“La Cigal” is a few things. One, a very loud but extraordinary looking insect. Two, a theatre in Paris on 120 boulevard de Rochechouart where its lavish performers list from the date it opened in 1887 ranges from Mistinguett to Jean Cocteau, Maurice Chevalier to Bowie and then some. Three, the name of a gown designed by Dior in 1952, which is also beautifully structured, as with most of Dior’s creations, and also has an illusive color which depending on the light, its heavy gray ribbed moiré silk will shine beige or purple, similar to the Suzy Perette dress above.
It should also be noted, the owner of the Suzy Perette line, Sidney Blauner, for $2000 plus royalties purchased the rights to incorporate Dior’s notions into his dresses which sold in the United States within the price range of $40-$100. So when you buy a Suzy Perette, you just might be buying a touch of historic Dior as well!
