1950's Powdered Blue Silk Dress
Age. 70+ years
Era. 1950s
Size. 36" Bust . 26" Waist . Free Hip
Quite a sight, a true powdered blue silk chiffon masterpiece visiting us from the past. A color perfectly balanced between blue, off white, and a few drops of dove grey…a shade that remained popular from the 1930s through the 1950s. A holy grail in dress shades for certain vintage collectors.
All details and construction point to couture. Expert tailoring, hand stitched structuring, and detailed draping. Open weave fishnet straw hem enveloped in matching silk chiffon creates the wavy structure along the bottom which bounces and moves with every step. Bow tie details at the shoulders, gentle draping at the front and back. Bustline darts dip in and out at just the right points, lightly stretching over the constructed part of the bust and releases where the curves like flattery. Snaps with a hook and eye closes at the left side, attached belt ties in a bow at the front. A bonus for this dress…a removable underpinning almost acts as a second dress in itself. Matching silk chiffon drapes from the waist down, bodice is fully boned with a built in wide stabilizing belt, keeping the cinched waist in place. Bust is tailored to that mid century’s slightly pointed perfection. Closes with a side zipper. This dress has a timeless essence to it, while still rooted to an era long gone. Certainly is a welcome visitor.

CONDITION: Great, very wearable, condition. Dress has had minor interior repairs through time. Not visible when worn. Minor discoloration on the back left side, and on the bottom front right. Three pinhole marks on the front of the bust, as pictured.
SUGGESTIONS: Truly the perfect piece for when the seasons transition, autumn and spring. Its powdered blue shade is a perfect neutral making this suitable for so many occasions, but a luxurious picnic is the first that comes to mind.
